SUNNYSIDE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 12 GOVERNING BOARD RESIGNATION
(Tucson, AZ, June 23, 2011) – Pima County School Superintendent Dr. Linda Lee Arzoumanian has accepted the resignation of Sunnyside Unified School District Governing Board member Roberto Jaramillo effective June 28, 2011.
Mr. Jaramillo has accepted a teaching position in the Sunnyside Unified School District. Arizona Revised Statutes §15-302.3 outlines the county school superintendent’s responsibilities in filling a vacant governing board position -- vacancies may either be filled by an appointment or by a special election. Dr. Arzoumanian has determined that an appointment to complete the remainder of the term for this position will best meet the needs of the community and the school district. The term of this appointment will begin upon appointment and will continue through December 31, 2012. This position will appear on the November 6, 2012 ballot as a regular four year term position. To qualify as a governing board member the applicant must have been a resident of the Sunnyside Unified School District for at least one year prior to the appointment and must be a registered voter in the state of Arizona. Please note that according to state statute, no employee of a school district, or their spouse, may hold membership on a governing board of a school district by which they are employed. Candidate questionnaires are available at the Office of the Pima County School Superintendent as well as the Sunnyside Unified School District Office for anyone who wishes to be considered for appointment. All completed questionnaires must be received in the county school office no later than 5:00 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2011, to be considered by Superintendent Arzoumanian for appointment. An Advisory Committee, consisting of five district residents, will be assembled to interview all candidates and advise Dr. Arzoumanian on the appointment. The Advisory Committee will conduct the interviews in August in the Office of the Pima County School Superintendent.
